Brentsville Model United Nations
Instructor: Mr. Wonders

What is Brentsville Model United Nations?

A Model United Nations simulates the activities of the Security Council and various other committees of the United Nations.  Each participant assumes the role of a diplomatic representative of one of the member nations and, through role-playing, attempts to resolve major issues confronting the world.  Topics range from determining the appropriate UN action to curb international terrorism to achieving international consensus and implementation on the rights of women.  Throughout the school year, thousands of young people -- in the United States and overseas -- attend Model United Nations conferences and address those issues confronting the world today.

What does it take to become a member of the Model UN?
While it is generally accepted that many of the international affairs enthusiasts involved in Model United Nations throughout the globe are destined to be tomorrow's leaders of the world, Model UN is NOT an "elite" activity for only young people who have demonstrated leadership abilities.  A delegation must have leaders and followers with a wide variety of skills: negotiators, debaters, writers, spokespersons, diplomats, and experts in military affairs, science, economics, and social issues.  The Brentsville Model UN welcomes students of all abilities and talents.  We ask only that you maintain a minimum GPA 2.5 to represent the school at all official functions and conferences.
